Care Level for Favia Corals

Ease of Care: Moderate. Favia corals are relatively hardy, but they benefit from stable water conditions and proper placement to avoid aggression with neighboring corals.

Lighting: Moderate to High. Favia corals can adapt to a variety of lighting conditions, but they often display the best coloration under moderate to high lighting.

Water Flow: Low to Moderate. A gentle, indirect flow is best to keep their surface clean and assist in nutrient exchange without being forceful enough to cause stress.

Water Parameters: Stability is key. Salinity should be maintained between 1.023 to 1.025 specific gravity, pH should range from 8.1 to 8.4, and temperatures should hover between 75°F and 79°F. Regular monitoring of alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels is also essential.

Dietary Needs: While Favia corals have zooxanthellae that perform photosynthesis to provide some nutrition, they also benefit from direct feeding due to their carnivorous nature.

Recommended Foods: Favia corals appreciate small meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, rotifers, and other zooplankton. Coral-specific foods available in the market can also be suitable.

Feeding Frequency: Direct feeding once to twice a week is generally adequate. It's crucial to monitor their response and adjust feeding practices as needed, ensuring not to overfeed.
