Mystrea Machine Blasto
Care Level for Blastomussa Corals
Ease of Care: Moderate. Blastomussa, often referred to as 'Blasto,' is generally hardy and can be a good choice for intermediate reef hobbyists. They require stable water conditions and moderate care.
Lighting: Low to Moderate. Blastos do not need intense lighting; too much can harm them. They are adaptable and can thrive under LED or T5 lighting that is not too direct or strong.
Water Flow: Low to Moderate. These corals prefer a gentle flow that allows them to capture food effectively without being too harsh.
Water Parameters: Keep the water quality high, with stable temperatures between 75-80°F, specific gravity at 1.025-1.026, and pH of 8.1-8.4.
Dietary Needs: These corals have symbiotic algae known as zooxanthellae that provide nutrients through photosynthesis, but they benefit from supplemental feedings.
Recommended Foods: Small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, finely chopped fish, and prepared coral foods are ideal.
Feeding Frequency: Feeding 2-3 times a week is beneficial, although they can survive with less frequent feedings due to their symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae.
