Care Level for Soft Coral
Ease of Care: Easy. Soft corals are often robust and forgiving, making them an excellent choice for novice reef keepers.
Lighting: Low to Moderate. Most soft corals do well under lower light conditions compared to their stony coral counterparts, though some may benefit from moderate lighting.
Water Flow: Varies. Some prefer a gentle flow while others might require a stronger current, but generally, a moderate flow is acceptable for many soft corals.
Water Parameters: Stable with salinity at 1.023 to 1.025 specific gravity, pH between 8.1 and 8.4, and temperatures ranging from 75°F to 79°F.
Dietary Needs: Soft corals will gain a lot of their nutrition from the symbiotic zooxanthellae within their tissues and may also absorb some nutrients from the water.
Recommended Foods: Some soft corals can benefit from supplemental feeding of microplankton or coral foods, depending on the species.
Feeding Frequency: If needed, supplemental feeding can be done 1-2 times per week.
