Ultra Splatter Hammer
Care Level for Hammer Coral (Euphyllia ancora)
Ease of Care: Moderate. Hammer corals are resilient and can be easier to care for than some other large-polyped stony (LPS) corals, but they still require stable water conditions and careful handling due to their sensitivity to changes.
Lighting: Moderate. They do well under moderate lighting levels, which can be provided by T5s, metal halides, or LED lights.
Water Flow: Moderate. A moderate flow is best for hammer corals, as too strong a flow can damage their polyps, while too weak a flow can allow the buildup of harmful detritus.
Water Parameters: Salinity should be maintained at 1.025 specific gravity, pH between 8.1 and 8.4, calcium between 350-450 ppm, and temperatures should range from 76°F to 80°F.
Dietary Needs: Hammer corals contain zooxanthellae which provide most of their nutritional needs through photosynthesis. However, they benefit from supplemental feeding.
Recommended Foods: Meaty foods like mysis shrimp, finely chopped fish, or commercially available coral foods are suitable.
Feeding Frequency: Target feeding once a week can suffice, ensuring that food is delivered directly to their tentacles during feeding times.
